Hi! Can you let everyone know who you are and where you’re from?
Hi, my name is Mae, I’m from Sussex in the UK. I’m 25 and done multiple beautiful seasons in the French alps.
How long have you been skiing for?
Since I could walk (so about 2). I was super lucky to be introduced to the mountains with my family when I was very little. But my true love and obsession with the slopes started when I did my first ski season in Tignes.
Favourite place you've skied and why?
Tignes, France. I’m biased as this is was where I did my first season. But the skiing is insane here, apres the best and just the general vibe of the place is awesome. Can never get enough of it.
Where have you been based during your ski seasons?
17/28 season I was working in a chalet in Tignes, Le Lac. I was a host, cooking and cleaning with two others for 25 guests. I worked for a big travel operator; Inghams/Espirit.
While I was at uni for 4 years I worked for NUCO Travel repoing university student weeks out to the alps during my holidays. I loved this and had the best time ever.
22/23 season I worked in La Plagne as a holiday rep for Crystal Ski. Again an amazing job with great opportunities.
Favourite thing about living in the mountains?
Skiing everyday. I know everyone says it but honestly if you’re out there you really have to make the most of having the hill outside your front door. You can learn so much and get soo good at what you love. The peace that the mountains bring is something else.
Any advice for anyone wanting to do a season?
Ski every day, even if it’s just for a little bit, but get out every day. You won’t regret it (you’ll get really good!!). Apply to lots of companies, there are so many out there. There are so many good ski resorts not just Val D and Val Thorens. You will have the best time no matter where you are. Don’t be afraid to go and do one on your own, you will meet friends for life. Oh and have a night off every so often, you really will burn the candle at both ends.
We can see from your socials that you've been to Rise Festival, how good is it? And what makes going to a festival in the mountains different/special?
It’s so epic!!! I actually worked for them this season just gone in their content team but it really is awesome. So accessible for all abilities and great night life. So much to do and a great option for a group of friends of varying abilities. It’s also super accessible from the airport and a great price deal so would definitely recommend the trip.
Do you want to work in the ski industry in the future? What's the dream?
I have been super lucky to work in the industry for the last 8 years across all varying roles from marketing, events, chalet, repping etc. The mountains will always be my home and where I feel most happy but I’m looking forward to enjoying it more for leisure in the near future but hope to do more seasons across Canada, US and New Zealand in the future.
